Our lab combines advances in basic affective science with clinical science. We develop and use indirect assessment methods to investigate cognitive, psychophysiological, behavioral, and motivational aspects of emotions and affective psychopathology. The lab examines the links between higher-level cognition and affective processes in individuals with and without psychopathology.
The current research endeavors involve alexithymia - reduced ability to identify and describe one's own emotions. We are interested in studying the effects of alexithymia on emotion regulation and mental health.
Our research also focuses on comorbidities among mental health problems, particularly depression and anxiety disorders, and mechanisms of change in evidence-based psychotherapies. The ultimate research goals are to inform conceptualization of psychiatric disorders and to improve psychological interventions.
